HELLO from the staff of Serge & Sew in Nanaimo!
Spring? Maybe! It's February - yesterday it poured rain - today feels like spring will arrive any minute! When we hear about the terrible weather in other parts of the country & indeed around the world, we know how lucky we are on Vancouver Island!
Since the beginning of the year, we have received many, many bolts of gorgeous new fabrics and lots of new books and patterns. Pat Bays has generously loaned us her wonderful "Snugly Bugly" quilt for display. Snugly Bugly is a fantastic series of "bug" patterns by Amy Bradley: they can be made as individual wall hangings or a full quilt. Another cute series is Helene Knott's "Garden Patch Cats" - each pattern has a different "vegetable-themed" cat! And each pattern comes with its' own recipe!
Classes are in full swing at SERGE & SEW and our students are enjoying many new projects and different techniques. In addition to our regular classes, we have scheduled a series of Special Events. We have "invited the experts" to share their expertise!
Do you feel the need to get out of the house when Super Bowl Sunday arrives? Why not join Kim Graham on Sunday, Feb. 7 from 9-5:30pm to make a large lap sized Super Bowl Mystery Quilt? This one-day class is only $60 and includes lunch.
Our first special event in February is a Trunk Show & Book Signing by Nanaimo's newest author, Eileen Wright. It will be held on Feb. 2 from 11am-2pm. Martingale Patchwork Press has published Twist & Turn Bargello, a really gorgeous book containing eleven of Eileen's original, unusual Bargello quilt designs. You'll get to see the real quilts and perhaps get some hints from Eileen! Just call us at 250-390-3602 so we know how many chairs we'll need (and how many cookies, too!)
The second of our February special events is an Intermediate Serger Foot Workshop with Baby Lock expert Isobel Dunnet. Isobel's first workshop in the fall was a real hit! This class will be Friday, Feb.12 from 6-9pm. If you own a Coverlock serger, this is the class for you! Cost for this class is only $20 and you will be amazed what you learn.
Our third Border Creek Mystery Quilt block of the month is underway. Don't forget to pick up your monthly set of instructions! This time the quilt is a scrappy one, so it may help you to make a bit of a dent in your stash!
